Futurism ain't shit to me
Thanks to Resident Advisor's "Feed" section for alerting me to the fact that my look back on the past 10 years of electronic music is up on De:Bug's website--and in English!--as a part of their 10-year anniversary issue. Extra special thanks to same for not mentioning that I used two "as tangled as..." metaphors in the space of two paragraphs.

great article, jefe. i was thinking the other day, it is quite interesting what has happened to "subgenres" lately. also, even though a lot of 1997 sounds fresh (dubstar, "anxious"), stuff from 2002 sounds positively archaic (john tejada). weirdness.

An incredible piece, Philip. Yesterday I had a small panic attack when I realized that Ø's Tulkinta is 10 years old and those scuffed-up Accelerate records on the floor are inching towards 15. So your timing was perfect and now I'm not so worried that the music is simply an endless loop or, worse yet, that my tastes have atrophied ca. 1996-1999 (still, what can beat Basic Channel's 'Phylyps II'?)
Now that techno is maturing, the joys of navel-gazing and taxonomy are fading away, and this is a good thing. There's no longer the constant need to appear all tricked-out every year...a simple kick and snare stands on its own with the same authority as Helvetica. Well...it will take some time to properly process your essay, but it's an excellent catch-your-breath sort of piece that I'm sure I will reference often. Thanks for writing it.
